General Disability Guidelines

bar

Harvard University is required by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to provide effective auxiliary aids and services for those with documented disabilities if such aids are needed to provide equitable access to Harvard's programs and services. Both the ADA and Section 504 protect individuals from discrimination and ensure reasonable accommodations.

To establish that an individual is covered under the ADA, documentation must indicate that the disability substantially limits one or more major life activity, and supports the request for services, accommodations, academic adjustments, and/or auxiliary aids.

Documentation must follow guidelines specific to medical (including mobility, manual, hearing and visual), learning, attentional, and psychiatric disabilities. Guidelines are also available for those who wish to document conditions resulting from temporary illnesses and injuries.
